It is very common for most modern cars to have an on board computer called an ECU (Engine Control Unit) which constantly monitors the performance of your car to help to identify changes and issues with your car. The sensors all around your car continually report back to the ECU if they have identified a problem. If something like low fluid levels or a very high temperature for example is discovered the ECU generates an error code, this error code then triggers a warning light on your dashboard.
There are hundreds of different and potential error codes that a car can report, and these can only be read and analysed by a specialist piece of equipment used for diagnostics. The warning light is only a broad indicator of the problem, a full diagnostics check is required to identify the specific problem.
We have the latest Bosch computerised diagnostic equipment here at our workshop in St Ives, Cambridgeshire – a very specialised piece of equipment that helps to reduce the time it takes to find the fault with your car. The equipment we use will diagnose thousands of fault codes on most makes and models of cars.
Vehicles often have warning lights, which light up when a problem occurs – please don’t ignore them! Ignoring warning lights can result in damage to your car, especially if you keep driving. If a warning light appears on your dashboard, call us to diagnose and fix the problem – we would be happy to help.
